Trump weighs Iran strike options as third carrier deploys
Donald Trump is considering options for renewed military action against Iran as the US deploys a third aircraft carrier to the region.
President Donald Trump is weighing options for fresh strikes against Iran as the US deploys a third aircraft carrier to the Middle East, marking the largest naval surge since 2003. Trump has repeatedly claimed the conflict will end 'soon', most recently telling Kansas City radio it would be 'wrapped up soon' and that 'we need a guarantee there'll never be a nuclear weapon'. The US and Iran's foreign ministers say a diplomatic resolution remains possible, with an Iranian delegation in Doha meeting Qatari mediators, though no direct US-Iran talks are scheduled. Iran's Supreme Leader has instructed the military to prepare for defence. Trump cancelled several campaign rallies this weekend, prompting questions about military developments, and has previously suggested escalation could occur after the midterm elections.
