Canelo reclaims WBC title with win over Mbilli in Riyadh
Saul Canelo Alvarez defeated Christian Mbilli by unanimous decision in Riyadh to reclaim the WBC super-middleweight title he lost to Terence Crawford.
Saul Canelo Alvarez won back the WBC super-middleweight title with a unanimous decision victory over Christian Mbilli in Riyadh on Saturday, returning to the ring for the first time in over a year. The 36-year-old Mexican outpointed the previously unbeaten Mbilli with scorecards of 115-112, 116-111 and 117-110, using trademark counter-punching and precise footwork. Alvarez had lost his undisputed super-middleweight crown to Terence Crawford in September 2025, the third defeat of his professional career. Mbilli, 31, had been elevated to WBC champion in January when Crawford retired. The bout proceeded despite security concerns in Riyadh following Houthi missile and drone attacks on the Saudi capital.
