news.today shows every major story once. We read the public RSS feeds of around thirty news outlets from across the political spectrum, group the articles that are about the same event, and write one short, neutral summary of what those outlets report. Every story links to every article it was built from.

How a story is made

1. Every ten minutes we fetch each outlet's feed: headlines and standfirsts only.
2. Articles about the same event are grouped automatically.
3. When at least two outlets cover a story, an AI model writes a headline and a summary of no more than about eighty words from those headlines and standfirsts, and nothing else.
4. Stories are ranked by how many different outlets are covering them, and how recently.

Stories covered by a single outlet are shown with that outlet's own headline, credited and linked, and are not summarised.

What we do not do

We do not copy articles, we do not read behind paywalls, and we do not replace the reporting we link to. If a story matters to you, read the outlets that reported it.

Display modes

The same news is available as a modern page, as teletext (start at page 100) and as a green-screen terminal with keyboard navigation.
