Editorial standards and corrections

The rules every summary is written to

• Only what was reported. A summary may contain only facts present in the headlines and standfirsts it was written from. Nothing is added from elsewhere.
• Two outlets, or attribution. Something is stated as fact only when at least two outlets report it. A claim made by one outlet is attributed to it by name.
• Disagreement is reported, not resolved. Where outlets conflict, the summary says so.
• No opinion. No comment, no speculation, no loaded adjectives. Allegations are described as allegations.
• Always linked. Every story lists and links every article it draws on.

Sources and balance

Our source list is chosen to span left, centre and right, broadcasters and newspapers, UK and international. Ranking depends on how many different outlets cover a story and how recently, never on which outlets they are.

Checks

Summaries are checked automatically before publication: length, completeness, and that they contain no link or address that was not in the source material. A sample is read by a person every day. Any story can be withdrawn or regenerated immediately.

Corrections

If a summary is wrong, misleading or unfair, tell us at corrections@news.today, or use the “Report a problem” link on the story. We aim to act within one working day. A summary that is wrong is corrected or withdrawn; significant corrections are noted on the story. We correct our summaries, not the reporting they are based on: errors in an outlet's article are for that outlet.

Publishers

We use only what publishers place in their public RSS feeds, show it with credit and a link, and never reproduce article text. If you publish a feed we use and would like to be removed, email corrections@news.today and we will do so promptly.
