Twenty convertible chairs installed at Worcestershire Royal Hospital

Summarised from 2 outlets · Updated 16 Oct, 17:02 · Archive

Twenty reclinable 'Buddy Beds' have been installed on the postnatal ward at Worcestershire Royal Hospital to allow birth partners to rest more comfortably.

Twenty specialist chairs that convert into beds, known as 'Buddy Beds', have been installed on the postnatal ward at Worcestershire Royal Hospital. The reclinable chairs are designed to allow birth partners to rest more comfortably while supporting new mothers during a significant time.

The beds were funded by Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Charity's Hold the Moment – Maternity Appeal, which raised £223,000 to improve maternity care and facilities. Lucy Brown, fundraising manager at the charity, said: 'It was brilliant to see the old upright chairs being swapped out for the new reclinable Buddy Beds.' Donors including the Morrisons Foundation and The Grace Trust, along with local community members and businesses, contributed to the project.

The appeal has also funded other improvements to maternity services. An expanded maternity bereavement suite at Worcestershire Royal Hospital now includes a dedicated memory-making room where families can create lasting memories with dignity and care. The appeal additionally funded nine jaundice meters for use by the Community and Continuity of Care midwifery team.
