A £30,000 donation from property tycoon Patric Cassidy will help complete a new boxing gym in York.
A £30,000 donation from property tycoon Patric Cassidy will help complete work on Charlie Malarkey's New Ways Boxing Club at the New Earswick Sports Ground in York. The boxing gym aims to help get people off the streets. Cassidy is director of the Cassidy Group and former fiancé of actor Patsy Kensit.
Simon Malarkey, Charlie's cousin, secured the donation after working with Cassidy on previous projects and winning an arm wrestle against him. However, Malarkey told The Press that he believes Cassidy would have made the donation regardless of the arm wrestle outcome. 'I did win, but I don't think the £30,000 was on it,' Malarkey said. He described Cassidy as 'a smashing fella' and called the gesture 'fantastic'.
A Cassidy Group spokesperson said the company is 'proud to support this outreach programme' and the boxing club's grassroots work. The donation will help establish the club and create opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds. The organisation hopes the club will provide a positive environment where young people and adults can develop confidence and new skills while bringing the community together.
