Thames Valley Police seized 73 illegal e-bikes and e-scooters across Reading and Oxford following operations targeting their dangerous use.
Thames Valley Police conducted separate operations in Reading and Oxford targeting illegal e-bikes and e-scooters. The Reading Neighbourhood Team, supported by the Roads Policing Tasking Team, seized 38 vehicles, whilst officers from the Oxford Cowley Neighbourhood Team and the TVP Roads Policing team recovered 35 vehicles across Oxford over the past week. All seized vehicles are to be destroyed.
Police identified that many of the seized e-bikes had been modified to travel at speeds significantly above legal limits. Privately owned e-scooters remain illegal to use on public roads, cycle lanes and pavements. The operations were prompted by community concerns about the dangers these vehicles pose to pedestrians and other road users, as well as antisocial behaviour associated with their use.
During the Oxford operation, officers also conducted proactive patrols in areas identified as drug-related hotspots. Three males were stopped and searched, with cannabis located. Another male was stopped and searched, with a bladed article recovered. Thames Valley Police said the investigation into the bladed article remains ongoing. Police thanked community members for their cooperation and information.
