A survey of 2,000 adults found 61 per cent believe their WhatsApp conversations are entertaining enough for broadcast.

A survey of 2,000 adults found that 61 per cent of Brits believe their WhatsApp banter is entertaining enough to make it onto the airwaves. The research, commissioned by drinks brand Echo Falls to mark the launch of its new Sour Apple Fruit Fusion flavour, also found that 64 per cent describe their friendship group as the 'wittiest, funniest, and smartest'.

When looking at people's confidence in their own humour, 23 per cent are convinced they are the funniest in their friendship group. A further 31 per cent said they leave their mates in stitches at the pub, and 31 per cent believe they are the funny one at work. Just over a quarter, 27 per cent, think their partner finds them hilarious.

Among those surveyed, 44 per cent said their friends regularly like their jokes. A separate question found that 40 per cent of people believe their chat would be funny enough to host a podcast, suggesting some distinction between thinking a group chat is podcast-worthy and thinking it could actually broadcast.

The survey was carried out by Perspectus Global in September 2026. Taran Dhillon, brand manager for Echo Falls, said the findings reflected the nature of group chats as spaces where 'so many of our funniest, juiciest and most unfiltered conversations happen, from the post-night-out debrief to the friend who always has a story to tell'.
