AEW and WWE face off in rare Wednesday night wrestling showdown

Summarised from 2 outlets · Updated 4 Nov, 18:02 · Archive

AEW's Blood & Guts episode airs Wednesday opposite WWE's NXT, featuring John Cena and CM Punk.

WWE moved NXT to Wednesday night because the show was bumped from its usual Tuesday slot due to the midterm elections. This created a rare direct clash with AEW's regularly scheduled Dynamite episode and its Blood & Guts special event, both airing at 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday.

NXT will air on CW and features major WWE stars. John Cena will appear to invite talent to the John Cena Classic, whilst CM Punk challenges NXT Champion Grayson Waller for the title. Cody Rhodes will present the trophy for the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. Kelani Jordan will defend the NXT Women's Championship against a mystery opponent.

The New York Post reports that AEW's build to Blood & Guts has been uninspiring on the men's side, with babyfaces Will Ospreay, Adam Copeland, Darby Allin, Steven Borden and the Young Bucks facing the Don Callis Family. The women's match also feels randomly assembled, pitting top female babyfaces against the company's best heels. The outlet notes that AEW's crowded pay-per-view calendar, with Revolution scheduled a week later, has created booking challenges.
