Apple has announced a new fourth-generation Apple TV 4K costing $299, featuring a faster A19 chip and built-in microphones for hands-free Siri control.

Apple announced the fourth-generation Apple TV 4K earlier this week at a price of $299 with 128GB of storage. The device replaces the third-generation model introduced in 2022 and brings a number of internal upgrades whilst retaining the same basic design and entertainment features.

The main improvements include the A19 chip, which Apple claims is up to 50 per cent faster at CPU tasks and twice as fast at graphics compared to the previous A15 Bionic chip, alongside double the RAM. The box also gains built-in microphones that can hear Siri requests over whatever content is playing, upgraded Wi-Fi 6 to Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5 to Bluetooth 6, and a dedicated decoder for AV1 video compression. The device includes four-speaker HomePod surround sound and an updated Siri Remote.

Apple has softened the upgrade's impact for existing users. Siri AI will become available in beta on second-generation and later Apple TV 4K models through tvOS 27.2, bringing conversational entertainment searches and follow-up questions. The new remote, described as harder to lose, can be purchased separately for older devices and supports them. The new Apple TV 4K is set to release on 13 November.
