Venues are booking more tribute acts as fans seek cheaper alternatives to expensive concert tickets.
Venue operators say they are booking more tribute acts in response to rising demand from fans seeking affordable nights out. Dan Ickowitz-Seidler, director of Propaganda Venues, which runs XOYO and Barfly in London, Tramshed in Cardiff and The Warehouse in Leeds, said the group has experienced a 'real increase' in demand. Acts include Arctic Numpties, Oas-Is, Fleetwood Bac and Daft Funk, as well as a tribute to Pitbull.
Tribute shows typically cost £20–£30 per ticket. Mr Ickowitz-Seidler told the Press Association: 'People want an affordable night out where they can see a quality band, hear songs they love and have a great evening with friends. As gig tickets become more expensive, tribute shows allow people to see live music regularly.'
A survey by the Night Time Industries Association found that around a fifth of UK adults attended a tribute act show in the past 12 months. Some 30% of respondents said they expect to attend more events in the coming year than the previous year, with cost cited as the main reason. More than two-thirds agreed that seeing major acts live has become too expensive.
