Summarised from Wirral Globe's report · Updated 23 Oct, 11:58 · Archive

A BAFTA-winning writer and poet will appear at a free family storytelling event in New Brighton on Saturday, November 7.

A free family storytelling event will take place at Wirral's Floral Pavilion Theatre in New Brighton on Saturday, November 7, from 10.30am until 4.30pm. The Big Story Bash is designed to ignite a passion for storytelling among children and families through interactive activities and marks the end of the National Year of Reading.

Broadcaster and BAFTA-winning writer Frank Cottrell-Boyce, who co-wrote the London 2012 Olympic opening ceremony and won a BAFTA for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee Paddington Bear sketch, will deliver a talk. Poet Joseph Roberts, whose upcoming poetry collection Built Different celebrates Liverpool FC, will also appear; the collection features a foreword by former Liverpool FC captain Steven Gerrard.

The day will feature live performances, creative workshops, illustrator sessions, comic-making activities, character meet-and-greets, and face painting. Other guests include author-illustrator Kate Pankhurst, behind the Fantastically Great Women series; New York Times bestselling illustrator Claire Powell; and Beano cartoonist Marc Jackson. Councillor Jenny Johnson, chair of the Tourism, Communities, Culture and Leisure Committee, said the event will inspire children and young people across Wirral to develop a love of reading, storytelling and creativity.
