Former President Barack Obama is campaigning in Ohio and Michigan to support Democratic candidates in competitive Senate and gubernatorial races.

Former President Barack Obama is campaigning in Ohio and Michigan on 24 October to support Democratic candidates in closely contested races. In Cleveland, Obama will appear with three-term former Senator Sherrod Brown, who is seeking to oust Republican Senator Jon Husted from the Ohio seat formerly held by Vice President JD Vance. Obama will also campaign with Amy Acton, the Democratic nominee for governor, who is competing against tech billionaire Vivek Ramaswamy to succeed term-limited Republican Governor Mike DeWine.

Ohio has emerged as a battleground for control of the Senate, with both Vance and President Donald Trump visiting recently. Trump campaigned for Husted on Monday, focusing on immigration. The Senate and gubernatorial races have been highly competitive and attracted substantial campaign funding.

On the same day in Detroit, Obama will campaign with Abdul El-Sayed, the Democratic Senate candidate, following a bruising Democratic primary that exposed divisions within the party. The Michigan event will also feature other top Democratic candidates, including Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, the party's nominee for governor. These appearances are part of Obama's broader outreach to midterm races deemed most consequential in the party's effort to return to power in Congress.
