A 12-year-old boy was arrested after allegedly stealing and driving a forklift through Adelaide's CBD.
A 12-year-old boy from Park Holme has been arrested after allegedly stealing and joy-riding a forklift through Adelaide's city centre. The incident occurred about 10.45pm on Tuesday when a bus driver narrowly avoided a collision with the forklift being driven the wrong way down Grote Street, one of the city's main thoroughfares. The driver alerted police to the incident.
Officers located the forklift abandoned in a car park on Franklin Street, but the driver was not at the scene. Police arranged for the vehicle to be towed and then reviewed CCTV footage of the incident. The footage revealed that the suspected driver was a 12-year-old boy. About 1am on Wednesday, officers traced the boy to Market Street, where he was arrested.
The boy has been charged with illegal use of the forklift and is due to appear in Adelaide Youth Court next month. South Australia Police has appealed for any CCTV or dashcam footage relating to the stolen machinery to be reported to Crime Stoppers.
