Breeze Airways to replace Spirit at Arnold Palmer airport

Summarised from 2 outlets · Updated 13 Oct, 18:02 · Archive

Breeze Airways will provide passenger flights from Arnold Palmer Regional Airport after Spirit Airlines ceased operations.

Breeze Airways has agreed to operate flights from Arnold Palmer Regional Airport in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, the airport authority announced on Tuesday morning. The agreement comes five months after Spirit Airlines ceased operations amid bankruptcy proceedings, leaving the airport without scheduled passenger service.

Breeze is a low-cost carrier operating more than 300 year-round and seasonal routes to more than 91 destinations in the United States, Mexico, the Caribbean and Costa Rica. The airline will initially offer service to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and Orlando. Authority member Don Rossi noted that Breeze 'was very aggressive' in seeking the opportunity and suggested additional destinations could be added as the airport completes its expansion.

The airport is nearing completion of a $24 million terminal expansion that will provide two gates for passenger use. Michael O'Barto, chairman of the Unity supervisors overseeing the airport, said the township welcomed the new terminal and resumption of service. Breeze already provides service elsewhere in Western Pennsylvania through Pittsburgh International Airport, operating flights to 20 destinations from that hub.
