A poll of 2,000 adults found most Britons believe they are too old to take up a new hobby by age 49.
A poll of 2,000 adults found that 61 per cent of Britons feel their life runs on autopilot. The same research revealed that 25 per cent have not taken up a new creative pursuit in the last five years or more, and most believe they are too old to start a new hobby by the age of 49.
Despite this, 55 per cent said they feel most like themselves when doing something hands-on or creative. However, 49 per cent struggle to break away from routine. The average adult gets just 90 minutes of genuine personal time a day, with 58 per cent confessing they spend that time watching television or scrolling social media (35 per cent) instead of pursuing hobbies or interests.
The research was commissioned by Poretti, an Italian larger brand. If they had more free time, 38 per cent of those surveyed would prefer to spend it relaxing and recharging, while 20 per cent would take up a new hobby, craft or creative pursuit.
To encourage people to try something different, Poretti has launched The Uncommon Inn, a temporary pub takeover featuring live craft experiences from makers and creatives. Caitlin Maley, a spokesperson for the brand, said the initiative aims to 'turn an ordinary pub visit into an inspiring journey' and invites pubgoers to 'slow down, pick up a new skill, and enjoy a pint'.
The Uncommon Inn will open in London on 15-16 October, before heading to Manchester on 22 October. The activation will feature live experiences including chainstitch embroidery, engraving and music.
