Shedeur Sanders, the Cleveland Browns' backup quarterback, has hired agent Adie von Gontard for the first time, fuelling speculation he may seek a trade.

Shedeur Sanders, the Cleveland Browns' backup quarterback in his second NFL season, has hired agent Adie von Gontard of Young Money APAA Sports for the first time. Gontard already represents Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Travis Hunter, Sanders' former teammate and draft classmate from the University of Colorado.

Multiple NFL sources tell Fox News the timing suggests Sanders may be preparing to press for a trade from Cleveland. Sanders represented himself through the 2025 NFL Draft, where he was selected in the fifth round with the 144th overall pick, and through the signing of his four-year rookie deal. The New York Post notes that similar circumstances surrounded Arizona Cardinals receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., who hired an agent shortly before being traded to the Houston Texans.

Sanders is currently backing up Deshaun Watson, who is the Browns' starter despite the team sitting at 3-2. ESPN reported that while there is no indication the Browns are actively seeking to trade Sanders, the team 'would probably welcome a deal at the right price' for one of their backup quarterbacks. Gabriel is on injured reserve with a back injury. In 2025, Sanders appeared in eight games, throwing for 1,400 yards with seven touchdowns and ten interceptions.
