A Worcester business owner will pull a weighted wheelie bin on a 26-mile round trip to raise money for a children's cancer charity.
James Sargent, a 36-year-old Worcester business owner, will walk a full marathon while pulling a weighted wheelie bin to raise money for a children's cancer charity. The 26-mile round trip from his home in Warndon to the top of Worcestershire Beacon is scheduled for Sunday, 18 October, in aid of the Children of Worcestershire and Herefordshire Cancer Fund through Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Charity.
Mr Sargent, who owns removals and clearance business Mr Van, said he chose to pull one of his company's bright yellow wheelie bins to make the challenge more distinctive. 'A lot of people do walks so I thought I own a company, we have wheelie bins, I'd just pull one of those, just to make it a bit more exciting and it draws more attention to it,' he said. He will aim to set off around 5am or 6am and will use sandbags to weigh the bin down.
Mr Sargent chose the charity after seeing the impact of cancer on people close to him. He has had relatives pass away with cancer and friends recently diagnosed. 'The way I've seen adults deal with how hard it is, I can only imagine how hard it would be for children,' he said. The business owner expects the challenge to take between eight and 12 hours and has already raised more than £500 of his £1,000 target.
