Royal Navy and Royal Marine Volunteer Cadet Corps cadets planted a poppy garden at HMS Sultan on Monday evening as a tribute to those who have died in service. The event marks the seventh consecutive year the tradition has taken place.
Three cadet units participated: HMS Sultan Royal Naval Volunteer Cadet Corps, Gosport Division Royal Marines Volunteer Cadet Corps and the Band of the RMVCC Gosport. The poppy garden tradition began in 2020 following a call from the Royal British Legion for the nation to plant poppies in support of service personnel, emergency services and veterans worldwide.
Captain Mark Hamilton, commanding officer of HMS Sultan, said: 'It has been a great privilege to join with the cadets for their Remembrance Service. The poppy garden offers a poignant tribute to the fallen with every poppy reminding us of those we have lost, of their stories and sacrifice.' This year's garden includes poppies made by pupils from King's Group Academies Gosport Community Hub.
