The NBA season opens this week following a major offseason of player trades and free agency moves.

The NBA season opens this week after an eventful offseason of player movement. Giannis Antetokounmpo was traded to the Heat, whilst LeBron James and Jaylen Brown both joined the Philadelphia 76ers. Luka Doncic has taken over as the lead player for the Los Angeles Lakers following James's free-agency departure after eight seasons. The New York Knicks, who broke a 53-year title drought, are positioned to attempt a championship repeat.

Doncic led the league in scoring last season with 33.5 points per game and was third in assists with 8.3. The New York Post reports that he hosted a minicamp in Slovenia to build team chemistry and urged the Lakers to acquire centre Walker Kessler. Doncic finished fourth in last season's MVP voting despite his statistics.

The Guardian reports that various other teams have also reshuffled their rosters substantially. Washington and Utah have assembled young cores of two-way wings alongside playoff-tested veterans including Anthony Davis and Jaren Jackson Jr. The extent to which these hastily assembled superteams will function effectively remains uncertain.
