Summarised from 2 outlets · Updated 20 Oct, 05:02 · Archive

A Buckeye mother fought off a 20-year-old intruder inside her home and driveway, with the struggle captured on security camera.

Bella Torres was getting ready to go trick-or-treating with her children in the Verrado area of Buckeye when her front door alarm sounded. She initially thought it was her husband returning from a nearby store, but realised within seconds it was an intruder.

Police identified the man as 20-year-old Adrian Ayala. Torres said that after making eye contact with him, he asked if he could use the bathroom before lunging at her. Torres and Ayala struggled on the floor of her kitchen and bathroom, and she said he also hit her daughter. Security camera footage shows the fight spilling outside, where Torres can be heard hitting him and asking who he is. During the struggle, Ayala is heard saying he is on drugs.

Torres' husband, who had been out at a store, returned to find the fight in progress. He got out of his car and ran to help his wife. Ayala fled, and Torres' husband chased him in his vehicle.

In court, Ayala's attorney claimed he was drawn to the home by Torres' husband as part of a 'role play'. Torres denied this, stating neither she nor her partner had ever met Ayala and that he had been seen walking around other houses. 'I just got caught in the crossfire,' she said. Torres said she cannot discuss further details because the case remains open.
