Chatty Bus returns to Oxford route for Mental Health Day

Summarised from 2 outlets · Updated 11 Oct, 06:19 · Archive

Thames Travel is running a Chatty Bus on the X40 service between Oxford and Reading on Saturday to combat social isolation.

Thames Travel is bringing back its Chatty Bus scheme on Saturday, October 10, to mark World Mental Health Day and help combat social isolation and loneliness. The scheme will run on the X40 River Rapids service between Oxford and Reading from 10am to 1pm.

Volunteers from Thames Travel will be on board to help start conversations, introduce passengers, play light games, and share information about nearby activities and social groups. According to a previous ComRes study, one-third of Britons catch the bus to have some human contact.

Luke Marion, managing director of Thames Travel, said: 'We know that isolation and loneliness have a profound impact on our society, which is why we continue to do what we can with our Chatty Bus events.' He added: 'Buses are an important social function, and by providing extra engagement via Chatty Bus we hope to deliver more support and raise awareness of the issue and the support available.'

The Chatty Bus concept runs across the Go Thames Valley network, including Oxford Bus Company, Carousel Buses, and Pulhams. The next Chatty Bus will run on the Pulhams network on Monday, November 9.
