Cheshire Police chief constable Mark Roberts praised ahead of retirement
Summarised from 2 outlets · Updated 30 Oct, 13:27 · Archive
Cheshire Police Chief Constable Mark Roberts is retiring next week after 33 years' service. He has received tributes in parliament from Tatton MP Esther McVey during Home Office Questions, and from Home Office Minister Satvir Kaur.
Ms McVey highlighted that Cheshire Constabulary was named the best police force in England and Wales for the highest charge rates for crimes against women and girls, specifically sexual offences, violence against the person, stalking and harassment. She said this happened 'under whose leadership this has happened' and called for the minister to join in congratulating Mr Roberts.
Ms McVey also questioned why Mr Roberts's contract was not extended, saying she was 'surprised the Police and Crime Commissioner for Cheshire did not seek to extend his tenure when he offered to remain in service'. It is understood that Mr Roberts had sought to continue in the role until 2028, but this was not supported by Police and Crime Commissioner Dan Price.
Cheshire Constabulary is currently recognised as one of the highest-performing forces in the country, according to His Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary.
