Warrington man jailed for arranging child sex offences

Summarised from 2 outlets · Updated 3 Nov, 08:31 · Archive

Michael Cartledge, 41, was sentenced to six years and eight months in prison for arranging child sex offences.

Michael Cartledge, 41, of Whitecross Road, Warrington, was sentenced to six years and eight months in prison at Liverpool Crown Court on 20 October. He pleaded guilty to seven counts of arranging the commission of a child sex offence, including child rape, two counts of attempting to engage in sexual communications with a child, and one count of making indecent images of children by downloading them.

Cheshire Police welcomed the custodial sentence. DC Davy said: 'We welcome the significant custodial sentence handed to Cartledge, who clearly presents a risk to children. Although no children were harmed during the commission of these offences, this does not minimise the seriousness of the crimes; Cartledge clearly showed intent to harm a child, even trying to arrange a date where he could commit these offences.'

Judge Katherine Pierpoint told Cartledge: 'You explicitly tried to arrange opportunities to rape children as young as three and up to 14 years of age. You discussed fantasies you had, and you made arrangements for the rapes to take place.' Upon release, Cartledge will be subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order. He was arrested on 24 April after being seized for different matters, when his Samsung Galaxy mobile was seized and analysed, leading to the offences coming to light.
