Daniel Jones, 32, was arrested after his father Pipo Nguyen-Duy, a photography professor at Oberlin College in Ohio, and stepmother were found shot dead.

Daniel Jones, 32, was arrested on Wednesday in connection with the deaths of his father Pipo Nguyen-Duy, 64, and stepmother Tran Thi Phong, 56, found shot dead in their Oberlin home. Nguyen-Duy was the studio art chair at Oberlin College, an Ohio liberal arts institution near Lake Erie where he had worked for nearly 30 years. He was an award-winning photography professor.

Police launched their investigation after responding to a suspicious car fire in a conservatory parking lot on Wednesday morning. They found a burned Toyota hatchback with Oregon license plates registered to Jones, containing his wallet, passport and live ammunition. After his arrest, officers conducted a welfare check at his parents' home a mile and a half away, where they discovered the bodies. Nguyen-Duy was found on the first floor; Thi Phong was in a second-story bedroom.

Jones was charged with six counts of murder, four counts of felonious assault and one count of tampering with evidence. He was held on $3 million bail after a court appearance on Thursday and has not entered a plea. According to the Guardian, authorities were investigating a motive. The Guardian reports that police contacted Jones's mother in Oregon, who told them her son had a mental illness requiring medication.
