Chirk Court care home in Wales has created a handmade poppy cascade honouring veterans for Remembrance Day.
Chirk Court, a specialist care home near Wrexham in Wales, has created a striking handmade poppy cascade to honour veterans ahead of Remembrance Day. The display flows from the home's balcony to the ground and features hundreds of poppies crafted from recycled plastic bottles, as well as knitted and crocheted designs. Residents and staff spent months on the project.
Manager Jane Humphreys said the idea was to bring the community together while honouring veterans, some of whom live at the home. 'Remembrance means a great deal to the residents and colleagues at Chirk Court,' she said. Activities Coordinator Nicola supported residents with painting, while Wendy, Tracy and Ms Humphreys knitted poppies. House keeper Kathy worked with students from the local college to attach the poppies to the netting.
Residents have expressed pride in the display. Helen Roberts said passers-by had stopped to take photographs. George Nicols, a military veteran resident, described the poppy display as 'wonderful'. Ms Humphreys reported that the response from the local community has been overwhelmingly positive.
