County Durham maize maze opens for Halloween scare nights

Summarised from 2 outlets · Updated 16 Oct, 12:32 · Archive

Thorpe Farm Centre near Barnard Castle is opening its maize maze as a terrifying night trail from 29-31 October.

Thorpe Farm Centre at Greta Bridge, near Barnard Castle, is bringing back its Scare Nights for a fourth year, turning the maize maze into a moonlit trail of terror from Thursday, 29 October to Saturday, 31 October. Visitors are promised a 'spine-chilling experience' as they navigate the maze in darkness.

The Scare Nights run from 7pm to 9pm with staggered entry times for each group. Harvey Barkes of Thorpe Farm Centre said: 'Each year we redesign our scare nights to make them, above anything, even scarier. We don't want to give anything away, but expect to be chased and jumped out on by any number of characters and creatures. You're following a path, often in near pitch black, so you won't know what's waiting for you around the next corner.' Last year's event was described in a review as 'intensely unnerving', with darkness creating an air of creepiness and scares coming unexpectedly.

Family Scare Sessions run from 4pm to 6pm and are aimed at younger children. The farm will have a street food vendor, a bar, seating areas and fire pits. Other seasonal activities include a Halloween Trail in the maze until 23 October and Pick Your Own Pumpkin until 28 October.
