Summarised from 2 outlets · Updated 12 Oct, 05:54 · Archive

Opening tickets for the Big Bash League season opener in Chennai sold out within 30 minutes, prompting Cricket Australia to release more.

The opening allocation of tickets for the Big Bash League's season opener in Chennai sold out within 30 minutes of going on sale on Saturday. The match between Melbourne Renegades and Perth Scorchers will be played at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium, home of Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League, on 12 December. Cricket Australia expects the match to be the highest-rating Australian sports match of all time and has announced that additional tickets will be released in coming weeks despite BBL matches typically experiencing their biggest rush within 48 hours of the first ball.

Melbourne Renegades captain Will Sutherland anticipated a 'wild' atmosphere, saying 'I am very excited to play in front of a full Indian stadium; hopefully, a lot of those fans will get behind the red team.' He noted that the team would implement more spin into training in preparation for Chennai's surface, which he described as 'notoriously spin-friendly conditions'. The Renegades are planning to arrive in India three or four days before the match to acclimatise to conditions. The match offers the BBL and the Renegades a rare opportunity to test their appeal in cricket's biggest market.
