A Democrat running for Fayette County Council in Indiana drew criticism after appearing to slur through attacks on Republicans during a televised forum.

Jaime West, 48, a Democrat running for Fayette County Council in Fayette County, eastern Indiana, drew widespread criticism after her appearance on a televised candidate forum broadcast by LocalTV3 in Connersville on Friday. During the interview with moderator Amy Graham-McCarty for the Connersville News Examiner, West appeared to slur and mumble while discussing her campaign.

West said she would 'fire all Republicans' if elected and stated she did not like being around Republicans. She railed against what she called 'racist' MAGA Republicans and alleged she had been threatened by them multiple times. When asked what unpopular decision she would make as a council member, she said 'firing all Republicans'. She also pledged not to raise taxes.

Asked for a final message to voters, West responded: 'We have guns too.' Conservative commentator Chaya Raichik shared the video on X, questioning whether West was intoxicated. Former litigator Viva Frei suggested the video appeared to be a 'skit' and said he investigated whether she had a neurological disorder that could account for the slurred speech, concluding she did not, though he noted that even a diagnosed condition would not excuse the 'we have guns too' remark.
