Arizona congressional candidate's assault location still being determined

Summarised from 2 outlets · Updated 1 Nov, 06:20 · Archive

Investigators are using cell phone and vehicle data to pinpoint where an Arizona congressional candidate reported being sexually assaulted in August.

Weeks after Arizona congressional candidate Bernadette Greene-Placentia reported being violently sexually assaulted, the Maricopa County Sheriff said investigators are still working to determine exactly where the attack occurred.

Greene-Placentia reported she was fixing campaign signs near 99th Avenue and Bell Road in Sun City on 14 August. While walking back to her vehicle, she said she was hit in the head and knocked unconscious. When she woke up, she reported being held down and sexually assaulted by a man, then assaulted again by another man as she fought back.

Maricopa County Sheriff Jerry Sheridan said detectives are using cell phone and vehicle data to narrow the search location, alongside canvassed surveillance footage. 'Understandably, the victim has limited recollection of the events, which has presented investigators with challenges in narrowing down the location,' Sheridan said. The potential area spans from 99th Avenue and Bell Road north toward the Anthem community.

Sheridan said his agency is committed to following every lead. 'This investigation remains open and active, and we will continue working toward establishing the facts and bringing this case to a resolution,' he said.
