AI note-taking tool improves doctor-patient interactions, trial finds
Summarised from BristolLive's report · Updated 4 Nov, 21:57 · Archive
An AI tool that takes notes during consultations has improved patient interactions for three-quarters of GPs in a trial.
An AI tool called Heidi that listens to consultations and drafts notes for clinicians to approve has been trialled at 55 GP practices in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire over 18 months. The tool was placed in 55 of 66 practices run by the GP network One Care.
Of the 109 GPs surveyed after the trial ended, 74 per cent reported that the AI tool had a positive impact on their interactions with patients. Clinicians reported being able to keep eye contact and no longer having to capture every detail while listening. Around 44 per cent felt less overwhelmed at work after using it, and approximately four in five said they would continue using it. Practice staff beyond the clinical team also used it for meeting minutes and dictated letters.
