The RSPCA is appealing for information after CCTV footage showed a man punching a dog in the head four times outside a Sainsbury's in Tulse Hill.

The RSPCA has launched an appeal after CCTV footage showed a man punching a dog in the head outside a supermarket in south London. The incident took place outside Sainsbury's in Tulse Hill at around 9.30am on Friday, September 4. According to the footage obtained by the animal welfare charity, a man followed a tan and white bull breed dog into the entrance of the supermarket, then grabbed hold of it and punched it in the head approximately four times. The man was also accompanied by another tan-coloured bull breed dog.

RSPCA Inspector Natalie Avery said the incident was 'a very upsetting incident to witness' and that the charity was 'keen to establish what happened'. The RSPCA has released an image of a man who was in the area at the time, as it believes he may have 'vital information' relevant to the incident.

Inspector Avery expressed concern about the welfare of the dog involved and urged anyone who was in the area and has information to contact the RSPCA. 'Even if you only have limited information, it could be vital for our enquiries, so we would encourage anyone who believes they can help to get in touch,' she added.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the RSPCA's Inspectorate appeal line on 0300 123 8018, quoting reference 01902228.
