Summarised from 4 outlets · Updated 2 Nov, 10:05 · Archive

A double-decker bus collided with a building in New Mills on Saturday evening, injuring several people.

A double-decker bus crashed into a building in New Mills, Derbyshire at approximately 5.20pm on Saturday at the junction of Union Road and Market Street. Several people suffered minor injuries and were treated by paramedics at the scene. There are not thought to be any life-threatening injuries.

Union Road, Market Street and St Mary's Road were all closed immediately following the incident. A cordon was put in place around the scene due to concerns over a potential gas leak. High Peak Buses said the 61 service could not access the bus station as a result of the police incident.

On Sunday, gas distribution company Cadent confirmed it had isolated the supply to the damaged pipe. Elliott Nelson, network director for Cadent's gas emergency service, said: 'Our priority in an incident like this is to make sure everything associated with gas is made safe, which we have been able to do by isolating gas supply to just this damaged pipe.' He added that Cadent's teams had checked all gas assets in the vicinity with no additional impact found.

Also on Sunday, Derbyshire Police reopened all three roads after the building affected was declared safe by a structural engineer. The bus had been recovered from the scene.
