A wanted man in York was captured after a police drone spotted him hiding between a house and a shed. Officers from the Tadcaster-based Neighbourhood Support Unit spotted him on a bicycle in the Acomb area of the city and set up a search on Monday, November 2.

The man abandoned his bike and ran into a housing estate, jumping over fences. The police drone detected a heat source in the garden and maintained visual contact on the suspect while officers moved in to arrest him.

He was wanted for failing to attend a court hearing on October 6, related to the alleged theft of goods from a Morrisons store on May 22. The man has been remanded into custody and will appear in court at a later date. A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said the arrest was 'another great example of the effective use of drone technology'.
