An online auction by the Isle of Wight Red Squirrel Trust has raised more than £4,000 in its first four days towards a £10,000 fundraising target. The Return of the Reds charity auction generated £2,250 on its opening day and had reached £3,438 by the end of day three.
The auction features hundreds of lots donated by Island businesses and supporters, with starting bids from just £4. Among the items available are a two-night family break at Nettlecombe Farm and more than 40 vouchers for Island restaurants, pubs, cafes and attractions. Bidders from across the UK can participate, with many lots available for posting.
Beth Greaves-Jones of the trust said the response had been overwhelming. Money raised will support conservation work at Howes Wood, a woodland purchased to safeguard the Island's red squirrel population, as well as educational projects. Bidding closes at 8pm on Sunday, 8 November.
