East Riding is marking Children of Foster Carers Week 2026 to recognise young people growing up in fostering households.
East Riding is marking Children of Foster Carers Week 2026, running from 12 to 18 October, as part of an annual campaign led by The Fostering Network. The week recognises the contribution of young people growing up in fostering households.
Marie Hall, fostering manager for East Riding, said the council involves children of foster carers from the very start. 'We speak to them about their thoughts and feelings and give consideration to how it will impact them,' she said. Throughout the fostering process, children already in the family are involved in all fostering events.
Councillor Victoria Aitken, cabinet member for children, families and education, said that children of foster carers play an important role in making those in care feel safer and more welcome. 'We know that when people are considering fostering, wondering how it might affect their children is one of the top considerations,' she said. 'The reality is that many children benefit from being part of the support network offered by a fostering family to a child in care.' Anyone interested in fostering can contact East Riding Fostering on 01482 394095.
