Storm Boelo leaves 3,000 properties still without power

Summarised from 2 outlets · Updated 26 Oct, 16:31 · Archive

More than 80,000 properties have had electricity restored after Storm Boelo, with around 3,000 still without power.

More than 80,000 properties across Cumbria and Lancashire have had electricity restored after Storm Boelo caused widespread power outages. Around 3,000 properties remain without electricity, with SP Electricity North West engineers continuing repair efforts in challenging conditions.

The storm brought strong winds and heavy rain, causing damage to overhead power lines and leaving debris, flooding and fallen trees. St Bees in Cumbria was the worst-hit location, with wind gusts reaching 78mph. Engineers have used remote switching to reconfigure parts of the network, but around 100 sites still require on-site repairs.

Efforts have been hampered by continued high winds, flooding and blocked access routes, making it difficult to transport specialist equipment. Paul Killilea of Electricity North West said: 'Our teams have worked incredibly hard over the last few days in very challenging conditions and have already restored power to tens of thousands of customers.' The company expects full restoration by 6pm Tuesday and has set up warm hubs in worst-affected communities offering hot food, drinks and mobile charging points.
