A Southend car service manager has won £777,000 in Magic Radio's Make Me A Winner competition.

Tom Fieldhouse, 39, a car service manager from Southend, has won £777,000 in Magic Radio's Make Me A Winner competition. He received the news from presenter Gemma Atkinson during a phone call on Friday afternoon. Tom and his wife Lucy, also 39, had been entering the competition for a couple of months.

Tom said the amount held special significance for him. 'My daughter always says I'm so lucky and tells me to enter,' he said. 'Seven has definitely always been my lucky number – it feels indescribable.'

Despite the sudden wealth, the couple did not immediately spend lavishly. Instead, they marked the news with a takeaway at home. 'We just sat down and got a takeaway - we couldn't really believe it,' Tom said. 'I don't think it will properly sink in for a while.'

The couple have two daughters, aged 12 and nine. They are now looking forward to a family trip to Disney. Tom said the money will not simply be spent on treats, with plans to pay off their mortgage also forming part of their future plans.
