Seven newborn kittens were discovered in a bin store at a Land Rover dealership in Exeter.

A routine day at a Land Rover dealership in Exeter took an unexpected turn when technician Mike Dixon discovered seven newborn kittens in a bin store. As he moved a stack of cardboard, the mother cat ran out, revealing three female and four male kittens huddled together inside a box that was deteriorating.

Dixon and his colleague Beth Cupper, workshop controller with a degree in animal conservation, immediately took action. They moved the kittens into a sturdier box, placing pieces of the old box inside to retain their scent, and added tuna to tempt the mother to return. The pair had seen the mother cat in the area for a few weeks previously but had not realised she had taken her family into the bin store for safety.

With no sign of the mother several hours later, the kittens, estimated to be no more than a month old, were taken to St David's Veterinary Hospital, where they received round-the-clock care. They were subsequently moved to the Cats Protection Devon Cat Centre, where they will be available for adoption.
