Jennifer Balcarras, 48, and her daughter Selah Reed, 20, were found dead on a trail in Bella Coola, British Columbia after an apparent grizzly bear attack.

Jennifer Balcarras, 48, and her daughter Selah Reed, 20, were found dead on the Snooka West Trail in Bella Coola, British Columbia following an apparent grizzly bear attack. Balcarras was discovered on Monday, with her daughter found on Tuesday afternoon during a search by conservation officers and Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

The pair were reported missing by their family on Sunday after failing to return from a walk on Saturday. Police located Balcarras' vehicle at the trailhead and launched a search. The trail is located about five minutes' drive from the family's home and is not in a remote area. Josh Balcarras, the mother's brother, told the CBC: 'It's surreal. It doesn't seem real. It feels like a dream.' He noted that both were familiar with the trail and described the outing as 'just a casual walk'.

Balcarras worked as an art therapist and had recently moved to Bella Coola to begin a new chapter in her life. She had four children, with Reed being her youngest, and was also a grandmother. A fundraiser has been launched to cover funeral costs for the mother and daughter.
