Michael Mullins, 56, was struck by a Volvo driven by Simon Richardson on Warburton Lane near Paddock Lane on 20 April while cycling home from work. The vehicle failed to give way at a junction. Richardson drove off with Mr Mullins trapped underneath the car, which reached speeds of up to 60mph in a 30mph zone. Mr Mullins was dragged for more than a mile. Richardson stopped and attempted to dislodge him, then drove off again with him still trapped beneath the vehicle. He was eventually dislodged as the car moved and was left near a hedge on a grass verge in Lymm, where he died at the scene.

Mr Mullins had been head teacher at Stretford Grammar School for 17 years. Motorcyclist Andrew Besant-Roberts arrived minutes later after following a trail of blood from the collision. Simon Richardson has been jailed for life for the killing.

Mr Mullins' wife Sarah, whom he had been married to for 27 years, said: 'The past six months have been the worst of our lives. The pain has been unimaginable and, still to this day, I can't believe that Michael won't ever be coming home.' She thanked the members of the public, emergency services and police family liaison officers who helped her husband and supported the family.
