Miller's interest in painting was sparked by her great grandfather, who passed away when she was six. She was his only family member to paint. Years later, her grandmother gave her his old oil paints, which she still treasures today.

Although Miller occasionally paints outdoors, most of her work is completed in the studio. Oil paint's slow-drying nature means each of her paintings requires at least eight layers, with between three days to a week needed for drying between coats. She said: 'I would like to do more en plein air work, and I do some, but due to the nature of oils and most of my paintings requiring at least eight layers of paint, which take between three days to a week to dry between each, the majority of my work is done in the studio.'

Her paintings draw directly from her experiences fell running and hiking across the Lake District, giving her a unique perspective on the landscape.
