Lancaster City Council is offering shoppers free parking in ten Morecambe town centre pay-and-display car parks on selected dates in December to boost retail trade over Christmas.

Drivers can park free all day on four weekend dates: Sunday 6 December, Sunday 13 December, Saturday 19 December, and Sunday 20 December. Parking will also be free after 3pm on Thursday 17 December and on four consecutive days from Monday 21 December through Thursday 24 December. The free parking on Saturday 19 December coincides with the town's Festive Christmas Market.

The car parks included in the scheme are Bay Arena, Billy Hill, Central Drive, Festival/Goods Yard, Library, Marine 1, Bus Station, Pedder, Telephone Exchange, and Westview. On-street parking spaces and privately run car parks are not included. David Waddington, chair of Morecambe BID, said the scheme will 'incentivise' shoppers during an important trading period for retailers.
