Lancaster City Council is offering free parking on selected dates in November and December across its town centre car parks.

Lancaster City Council is offering free parking across its town centre pay-and-display car parks on selected dates in November and December. The scheme applies to council-operated car parks including the St Nicholas Arcades multi-storey, which is open until 11pm, and sites such as Auction Mart, Cable Street, Charter House, Dallas Road, Edward Street, Lodge Street, Lucy Street, and Moor Mills.

Drivers can park free all day on four consecutive Sundays: 29 November, 6, 13 and 20 December. Parking will also be free after 3pm on Thursday, 17 December, to support evening shopping, and from 3pm daily from Monday, 21 December, to Thursday, 24 December. On-street parking spaces, the Marketgate car park, and privately operated car parks are excluded from the offer and normal charges will apply.

Councillor Peter Jackson, cabinet member with responsibility for Lancaster Regeneration and Local Economy, said the free parking offers are 'a practical way to support our local traders and make it easier for people to enjoy everything Lancaster and Morecambe have to offer'. The scheme has been designed with input from local business improvement districts. A festive parking scheme is also being introduced in Morecambe to support coastal retailers, with different dates tailored to each town. Lancaster BID has arranged festive entertainment to coincide with the late-night shopping dates.
