A free five-week Level 2 course in education support work starts in Cumbria on 9 November, funded by the Adult Skills Fund.
System People is delivering a free five-week Level 2 course in education support work to Cumbria residents, starting on Monday, 9 November. The course is funded through the Adult Skills Fund and is designed for those interested in working in primary, secondary, or further education.
Participants will complete the Level 2 Award in Support Work in Schools and Colleges. The curriculum covers child development, safeguarding, health and safety, and understanding equality, diversity and inclusion. The course combines live tutor-led workshops with independent learning, delivered either online or in person at System People's offices in Carlisle or Workington. Classes run on Mondays and Tuesdays from 9.30am to 3pm.
To be eligible, applicants must be aged 16 or over, have the right to work in the UK, and demonstrate a genuine interest in supporting children and young people. While Level 2 maths and English qualifications are preferred, the organisation will discuss these on an individual basis. An enhanced DBS check is required to join the supply register, which System People will fund as part of the training.
On successful completion, participants will have the opportunity to join System People's supply register, giving immediate access to education employment across the county. This comes at a time when demand for education support staff is growing. Between 2025 and 2026, the number of pupils nationally with Education, Health and Care Plans grew by 11.1 per cent, while the teaching assistant workforce increased by just 2.1 per cent.
To register for the course, interested residents can call 01228 530554 or email reception@system-people.co.uk.
