Caitlin Hogg, 13, died from a traumatic brain injury after being struck by a car as she got off her school bus in County Fermanagh in December 2022.

An inquest into the death of Caitlin Hogg, 13, has concluded that she died from a traumatic brain injury sustained in a collision on 6 December 2022. The Mount Lourdes Grammar School student was struck by a car on the Moher Road in Kinawley, County Fermanagh, as she crossed the road after getting off her school bus. She died two days later, on 8 December 2022.

Coroner Joe McCrisken delivered the findings at Enniskillen courthouse on Wednesday. He noted that conditions were dry when the collision occurred in the afternoon, although light was diminishing. The car involved was travelling at 45 mph or less, and there was no evidence it had been travelling at excess speed. When the driver noticed Caitlin emerge from behind the bus, they veered to the left in an attempt to avoid her, travelling partly on the road verge.

Witnesses immediately came to Caitlin's assistance and CPR was administered until emergency services arrived. She was transported to the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children, where she was found to have catastrophic head injuries. Her father Bob Hogg told the inquest that his daughter was 'full of wisdom and never took things too seriously, she took everything in her stride'.
