Summarised from CornwallLive's report · Updated 4 Nov, 22:40 · Archive

A mother and daughter died in an apparent grizzly bear attack on a trail in Bella Coola, western Canada.

Jennifer Balcarras, 48, and her daughter Selah Reed, 20, were found dead on Snoaka West Trail near Bella Coola, western Canada, after apparently being attacked by a grizzly bear. The pair went missing on Saturday when they failed to return from a walk. They were reported missing by their family on Sunday, and Balcarras' body was discovered on Monday, with Reed found the following day.

Josh Balcarras, Jennifer's brother, told CBC the pair were familiar with the trail, which he described as 'not in a remote area' and 'just a casual walk'. Jennifer had recently moved to Bella Coola, where she worked as an art therapist. Josh said: 'It's surreal. It doesn't seem real. It feels like a dream.' A fundraiser has been launched to cover funeral costs.
