The silent claymation dog will speak in an audiobook of his autobiography, voiced by actor Martin Freeman.

After 37 years on screen without uttering a word, Gromit will speak for the first time in an audiobook of his autobiography, released this month. The claymation dog, who has starred alongside his inventor-owner Wallace in Oscar-winning films including The Wrong Trousers and A Close Shave, will be voiced by actor Martin Freeman.

Creator and animator Nick Park said choosing Freeman was straightforward. 'Who could possibly be the voice of a character everyone feels they know, but nobody's actually heard?' Park said. 'The more I thought about it, the more I realised Martin Freeman was the obvious choice.' Freeman, who won Bafta and Emmy awards for his role as Dr John Watson in Sherlock, will not adopt a distinctive 'Gromit voice', according to Park.
