Hampshire County Council is holding a free drop-in event on 24 October to inform people about fostering.

Hampshire County Council is holding Hampshire Fostering LIVE!, a free drop-in event designed to inform people about fostering opportunities. The event takes place on Saturday 24 October from 10.15am to 1pm at Farnborough Library, Pinehurst Roundabout, Farnborough GU14 7JZ. It is open to individuals, couples and families from across Hampshire aged 21 or over.

The council states that across Hampshire, some children and young people are in need of a safe, supportive home where they can feel secure, listened to and able to thrive. Fostering can help these children stay close to their school, friends and community whilst getting the care and stability they need.

The event is designed as a calm, welcoming way to explore fostering with no pressure and no commitment required. Visitors will have the chance to chat with specialist support staff, experienced social workers and some of the council's current foster carers, who will share knowledge and honest experiences to help attendees build a clear picture of what fostering involves.

The council will cover several topics at the event, including the different types of fostering needed in Hampshire, the professional support including out of hours provision available to every Hampshire foster carer, how fostering can fit around work and family life in different household situations, and the assessment process and home preparation requirements.

The council describes fostering as a potential 'first step on an inspiring, life-changing journey' for those aged 21 or over who want to make a genuine difference to a child's life.
