Two 20-year-olds from Hampshire have been given formal warnings after police found items linked to poaching in their vehicle.
Two Hampshire 20-year-olds have been issued Community Protection Warnings (CPWs) for suspected poaching activity. Officers from Tadley identified a suspicious vehicle near Bullington Cross shortly before 7.30pm on Sunday 11 October and found items inside commonly linked to poaching. The two men, from Swanmore and Eastleigh, were given formal warnings.
The warnings are intended to prevent further criminal behaviour and outline clear restrictions for the individuals involved. Police Sergeant Martyn Evans of the Basingstoke Rural Neighbourhood Policing Team said the force recognises the significant impact that wildlife crime, poaching and associated anti-social behaviour can have on both residents and landowners.
In a separate incident, three teenagers were warned after being caught near Upton Grey on Saturday 10 October. Sgt Evans said: 'Last weekend, officers issued five Community Protection Warnings across two separate incidents. These formal warnings make it clear that behaviour which causes alarm, distress, or harassment within our rural communities will not be tolerated.'
Sgt Evans warned that continued behaviour could result in a Community Protection Notice (CPN), the breach of which is a criminal offence. Breaching a CPN can result in prosecution, a fine and further court-imposed restrictions.
Sgt Evans urged members of rural communities to continue reporting suspicious activity so that police can protect the countryside and local communities.
